Samaritan Healthcare was recently reaccredited by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and received a new specialty accreditation for orthopaedics.
DNV is one of the world’s most widely regarded healthcare accreditation bodies. The accreditation process is a comprehensive organizational review that establishes standards for compliance, ethics, and care.

Representatives visited Samaritan June 4-6 for the reaccreditation survey to learn about the hospital’s background, quality metrics and to see care from the patient’s perspective.

“They follow the path that a patient would follow,” said Dr. Andrea Carter, chief medical officer. “Everything from how a patient is greeted during the check-in process to the moment they are discharged and we wish them well – it’s all covered in the survey.”

DNV accreditation is a voluntary process. Anne Foss Durant, chief of patient care services, said they choose to partake in the reaccreditation process to uphold the Moses Lake community’s trust and respect.

“The process allows us to ensure that we’re meeting the needs of the community, particularly in providing high-quality services,” she said. “It reassures patients that they can expect a continuous standard of care.”

After a complete examination of the hospital’s administration, medical staff, nurses, executive system, and more, Samaritan received the DNV’s official reaccreditation approval.
Samaritan also completed a one-day specialty survey on July 2 to receive DNV accreditation for the orthopaedic department’s hip and knee replacement surgeries.

“A major aspect of Samaritan’s strategic plan is to provide high-quality specialty care close to home,” said Foss Durant. “This accreditation is part of that journey.”

DNV is a cross-industry accreditation organization based in Norway. It provides services related to quality management, risk assessment, and sustainability. The organization adheres to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which is the global standard in setting consistent benchmarks for industry excellence.
