Growing up in Ethiopia, Dr. Abdusebur Jemal witnessed the desperate reality of life without adequate healthcare. He was determined to be part of the solution and dreamed of a medical career.

He moved to the U.S. at 14, later earning his undergraduate degree at Stanford University and a master’s degree in public health at Yale University. Dr. Jemal earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his residency at Oregon Health and Science University.

His graduate studies centered on epidemiology, pandemic model predictions, and cancer research. Now as a hospitalist at Samaritan Healthcare, Dr. Jemal provides primary care for adults, focusing on preventative care, early disease detection, and disease management.

Dr. Jemal enjoys making a tangible difference in his patients’ lives. He considers it a privilege to be part of their journey, and he insists on making patients the center of their own stories. He approaches care with a mix of communication, focused listening, and involving patients in the decision-making process.

A true team player, Dr. Jemal loves working alongside his Samaritan team, serving the community and providing patient care. When he isn’t improving patient health, Dr. Jemal enjoys hiking, running, soccer, fishing, and spending time with his family.
