Samaritan Healthcare is pleased to announce that Derek Mitchell, MD, has joined their Pain Management team.

Dr. Mitchell is a specialist in Interventional Pain Management at Samaritan Healthcare and is double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He completed a higher level of training with an Interventional Pain Management Fellowship, which increases the expertise he brings as a pain management physician.

Dr. Mitchell is highly skilled in treatments that include fluoroscopic-guided interventions, ultrasound-guided injections, radiofrequency techniques, Botox injections for migraines, and more.

“I especially enjoy being able to establish continuity in providing care for patients,” said Dr. Mitchell. “This leads to greater success in improved function and it benefits their quality of life—often restoring function for them to regain the ability to return to previously enjoyed hobbies.”

Dr. Mitchell earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, and he performed his Department of Anesthesiology Residency program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, NY. He expanded his pain management experience with an Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship, also at University of Rochester School of Medicine.

“I thoroughly discuss pertinent findings and records with my patients to ensure they are well informed,” said Dr. Mitchell. “I present various reasonable treatment options and help them decide which option suits them best.”

When he is not providing care for his patients, Dr. Mitchell enjoys outdoor activities with his family, from fly-fishing, hunting, and camping, to ATVs and motorcycles. His goal is to have a hobby farm, write a sci-fi fiction book, and retire as Jeremiah Johnson.
